Why choose wood?
For a sophisticated, individual look, wood is the natural choice. Each piece is as unique as a fingerprint. And each species has a distinct feel and personality all its own. From a purely aesthetic viewpoint, you will not find another material that can match wood's elegance and charm. Composite materials try to mimic it, but none have been able to capture the texture, depth and beauty of the real thing.

Can my door be painted, stained, oiled or waxed?
Internal Doors - All types of Internal doors can be treated with paint or vanish type finishes. Be sure to apply amply coats to a new door and fresh coats periodically.

Water based finish's Check the type of door you have is suitable for water base finishing products prior to treatment.

External Doors (Paint) - External doors, frames and panels may be treated with exterior quality paint. A primer coat, 2 undercoats and 2 gloss coats are recommended. Be sure to seal both the top edge and bottom edge underneath to prevent moisture from entering the timber.

External Doors (Stain or Varnish) - External Doors, frames and panels may be treated with a ‘spirit-based micro porous’ treatment of quality exterior grade. A pre-dec coat and four top coats are recommended. Be sure to seal both the top edge and bottom edge underneath to prevent moisture entering the timber. A pigmented treatment should be used to protect the timber from ultraviolet rays. Clear varnish alone is not sufficient to protect the timber.

NEVER use a ‘water-based’ product on your new external doors, frames and panels. These do not give adequate protection for your external doors.

Storing your new Wooden Door...
We would recommend that the door be hung as soon as possible after purchase. However, if the door must be stored, it must be stacked flat in a cool, dry area free from moisture and not exposed to sunlight or heat. Doors should not be stacked directly on fresh or new concrete, nor should they be leant against a wall for extended periods. Do not remove the protective packaging from your door until you are ready to treat and fit the door.
