Wood species
Kahrs range of wood flooring includes many of the world's most beautiful species from the most exciting parts of the globe. From light, calm Birch or Maple, through Oak and Beech, to dark and vibrant Walnut or Jarrah.

Ash Ash
The sapwood is almost white and the heartwood ranges from grey through light brown to light yellow with brown streaks. Some grades have very special figuring, which gives the floor an entirely unique and lively character. It is strong and withstands impacts.
Bacu Bacu
Light brown to light red wood species.
Beech Beech
Beech ranges in colour from light cream to medium tan/brown with pink-orange overtones. It is usually straight-grained, with dense figuring and its hard surface resists impacts. It adds warmth, and its uniform appearance makes the room seem airy.
Birch Birch
A stiff wood with excellent shock resistance, commonly used in fine furniture. Birch is usually straight-grained, with a fine, often wavy, structure. A birch floor gives the room a light, elegant look and can help to accentuate the rest of the decor.
Cherry Cherry
America's favourite wood for cabinet and furniture production. A beautiful and versatile species, warm, individual and charming. The sapwood is creamy white while the heartwood can vary from deep red to reddish brown, which together forms a fine figured, straight grain.
European maple European maple
Famous for having no taste or smell, it is often used for kitchen worktops and chopping boards. Compared with Hard Maple, European Maple has a lustre all of its own that gives the room a clean airy feel. The thin annual rings and soft figuring make it unique.
Hard maple Hard maple
Famous for its sap which is turned into Maple syrup. The sapwood is cream-coloured, with a tendency to reddish brown, and the heartwood varies from light to dark brown with red highlights. It usually has fine figuring with straight, but sometimes slightly wavy, grain.
Jarrah Jarrah
Jarrah has been used traditionally because of its durability and hardness. Jarrah has a smooth surface and straight graining, which has also made it sought after for the manufacture of furniture, doors and floors. The sapwood and heartwood vary from salmon-pink to deep red.
Jatoba Jatoba
Jatoba is often used for hardwearing products such as handrails, sports equipment and floors because of its hardness. The sapwood can have broad figuring, light pink and sometimes greyish tones. The heartwood ranges from salmon pink to reddish brown with dark streaks.
Merbau Merbau
The heartwood ranges from yellow to orange-brown. One of its special characteristics is that a type of yellow flecking in the wood's pores changes the character when it is sanded. The result is wood with a surface that seems to be speckled with gold.
Oak Oak
Oak is the most popular species for floors and furniture in Europe and the USA due to its lovely appearance and long life. Oak can be processed easily to give numerous colour tones, and is available in lacquered or oiled finishes.
Palisander Palisander
Reddish brown to dark purple wood species with dark or black stripes.
Red Oak Red Oak
Red Oak is America's most popular species for floors. The sapwood is white to light brown, and the heartwood is pink to reddish brown. The wood usually has straight grain. It is hard and durable, and it takes a wide range of coloured stains quite easily.
Rosewood Rosewood
A very beautiful species, which is often used for decorative veneers, cabinet making, instruments, furniture and floors. The colour varies from dark brown to deep purple with black streaks
Teak Teak
Leather brown wood species, often with dark brown to black streaks. The structure is lively and decorative.
Walnut Walnut
A dark, exclusive wood used in fine furniture. The sapwood is creamy white but the heartwood is a light brown to dark chocolate brown, sometimes with a tendency to purple. The wood gains a special lustre over the years. It usually has straight graining, but can have wavy shapes that offer exciting variation.

Surface treatment
Silk matt lacquer

Silk matt lacquer:
Our silk matt lacquer complements the wood's character by accentuating its natural living structure. This makes the floor more hardwearing and easier to clean. At the same time, the lacquer is one of the very thinnest available and does not conceal the beautiful floor surface.

Khars Wood Floors Matt Lacquer

Matt lacquer:
Our matt lacquer almost gives the impression that the floor is completely untreated bare wood, or treated with natural oil. You can clearly feel the soft, natural surface with your fingers or when you walk barefoot on the floor. Matt lacquer is as hardwearing and easy to maintain as silk matt lacquer.

Khars Wood Floors Nature OilNature oil:
Kährs Nature oil gives your floor a wonderfully natural and beautiful feel. The oil brings out the wood's wonderful texture and graining, and enriches the natural wood colour. While easy to maintain, you must remember that floors treated with Nature oil need a little more care and need to be treated with Kährs wax-oil regularly.

Joint system Woodloc®:
Kahrs Woodloc snaps inKahrs mechanical glueless joint

Kahrs Woodloc Jointing system for wood flooring
This mechanical glueless joint locks boards together almost invisibly. Boards align themselves automatically, without gluing.

The Woodloc joint gives results that withstand tough use and last as long as the floor. Thanks to the glueless installation, the boards can be lifted and re-laid.

Traditional joint:
For certain purposes there are also some Kährs floors that have a traditional joint system.

Strips/Pattern

1-strip
The surface of the board is sawn in one piece, this emphasises the feeling of nature and will show the full character of the species chosen. Knots and variations in colour, clearly demonstrate that this is a unique flooring complete with all the variety in the grain that only 1-strip can provide.

Our 1-strip range includes a selection of floors with less variation in colour and no or minimal knots. 1-strip floors are available in three lengths and four widths. They are ideal for large rooms where the dimension of the boards is in keeping with the overall space.
Khars Wood Floors 1-strip 2-strip
The wear layer is two strips wide. The strips are arranged to give different floors individual character.

Kährs 2-strip floors are available in two varieties, one with longer strips and one with shorter strips. The longer strip variety is ideal for large rooms, while the shorter strip variety is perfect for smaller areas.
Khars Wood Floors 2-strip

3-strip
With 3-strip floors the wear layer is three strips wide. The strips have different lengths and are positioned randomly, this creates a floor with an individual character. They are also graded into several varieties, enabling different floors to have a livelier or more tranquil feel.

3-strip floors, which are among our best-selling floors, offer a wide range of decorating opportunities.
Khars Wood Floors 3-strip Dutch pattern
An old classic board in a new way. The wear layer, the part of the board that you see and walk on, is made of 3 strips in the width and one across. When the boards has been laid it will be a beautiful cable stitch pattern.
Khars Wood Floors Dutch pattern

Shipsdecking
A floor with maritime feel. With a decorative strip and wood plugs in each end of the board to give the image of a real Ships Deck. The pattern is pre-made and the floor is delivered in whole boards as all our parquet floors are.
Khars Wood Floors Shipsdecking Hungarian stitch
A Hungarian stitch floor gives its very own stamp to the room. The floor can be installed in several variations.

Brinell value
By their very nature, different wood species have different levels of hardness. The hardness of parquet is measured using the Brinell method. This involves pressing a 10mm diameter steel ball against the parquet surface with prescribed force and duration. The indentation this leaves is then measured, and the Brinell value is calculated. The harder the wood, the higher the Brinell value. (The structure of wood means there can be variations, but the specified value is the average, taken from a large number of measurements.) The hardness of Linnea is defined by the core material.

Colour change
All wood changes colour over time. Some species darken rapidly, while others change less dramatically and more slowly when exposed to normal sunlight. Nature never stands still, that is the charm of a natural material.

Colour
Natural light, the size of the windows, other lighting and orientation are some of the points that can influence the choice of floor colour. A dark floor 'swallows' a lot of light, and also affects the feeling of space. At the same time, a dark floor can create a warm and comfortable feel in large rooms. A light wood floor reflects the light and increases the feeling of space within the room, and can create a dramatic contrast to dark design details.

Khars Wood Floors Vintage

Vintage look achieved through special wood processing method.

Khars Wood Floors Bevelled

Bevelled

Bevelling the edges on 1-strip floor boards accentuates each individual plank. This year we are introducing several floors with edges that are bevelled to varying degrees. Everything from floors with micro-bevelling (a slight accentuation of the edge using sandpaper) to more dramatic, stronger bevels on all edges that give the floor a more rustic and robust look.

Khars Wood Floors Brushed

Brushed

Brushing the surface highlights the natural structure of the grain creating additional texture. We can vary the effect depending on the species, and type of bristle. Brushing is usually accompanied by other surface treatments such as bevelling the edges and applying a coloured stain or glaze.

We can use stains to further enhance the colour that nature provided. From light, white lacquered or white oiled to dark, deep and exotic colours.
